Only two Barolo domains produce the prestigious Cru Marenca: Luigi Pira and the house Gaja. Barolo Marenca is a robust wine with a complex bouquet of undergrowth, chocolate and vanilla. To be opened one to two hours before service. Perfect pairing doe fillet and ceps.

Vinification
Spontaneous vinification using indigenous yeasts, in horizontal fermentation tanks at controlled temperature for about 12/15 days. Aged for two years in barrels: one year in small barrels and one year in large barrels. Then, aging for at least one year in the bottle.
Terroir
The Barolo Marenca Cru is produced from a two-hectare vineyard. Clay-limestone terrain exposed to the south/southwest, at an altitude of 350 meters. Approximately 9,000 bottles were produced for this vintage. Rich in microelements, the soil of the municipality of Serralunga transmits an increased minerality to the wines, compared to the other territories of the appellation area of Barolo.
Le vigneron
The Pira family has been associated to the territory of Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the Barolo appellation zone, since the end of the 19th century. In the 50s, Luigi Pira decided to bottle the production of the family farm. Until then, grapes and wine per litre were sold to the large estates of the Alba region.
But it was in the early 90 that their wine storehouse made a qualitative leap. The Gianpaolo son joined the project, modernized and expanded the wine storehouse. Today, three Barolo wines are produced from the 12 hectares of the Pira’s family historic vineyard, spread on the prestigious western slope.
