Schioppettino - 2021

Friuli - Venezia Giulia

Cepage Schioppettino

Appelation Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC

Vigneron Ermacora

red Red

One of Italy's great, but little-known wines, Schioppettino is an indigenous variety from Friuli with a centuries-old history. Thanks to its unmistakeable hint of pepper, which it shares with great wines such as Syrah, it is a natural accompaniment to any dish. A red wine with little tannin and pleasant acidity, it goes well with red meats, meat skewers, wild game and cheeses.

Wine making

After destemming, the grapes begin maceration in stainless steel fermenters with pumping over and punching down for a period of between 10 and 12 days. The marc is separated by racking and the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are completed in stainless steel vats, where the wine matures for at least twelve months. A portion (15%) is transferred to French oak barrels for maturation. After bottling, the wine is matured in bottles lying down in conditioned rooms.

Earth

Ground : Ponca. Un terrain composé d'une alternance de marnes et de grès

Terroir :

Undulating terrain on ponca soil: the Friulian name given to the alternating marl and sandstone, with varying percentages of limestone and clay. The succession of warm breezes from the Adriatic Sea (less than 30 km away as the crow flies), and from the Bora and other cold winds blowing from the north / north-east, generate large temperature differences, giving the wines their intensity, structure and elegance: all crucial factors for successful ageing.
