Wine tasting advice

  Ruby-garnet red with brick highlights.
Intense and complex bouquet of fruit (strawberries, raspberries, plums and cherries). Toasted and undergrowth notes.
Plump, with velvety tannins.

Vinification

Fermentation in casks for two weeks in contact with the lees. Regular punching down allows the best possible extraction of aromas and colour. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine rests for one year in 500l oak barrels then for 8 to 10 months in oak barrels. The bottled wine stays another year in the cellar.

Terroir

The Pinot Nero Riserva Mazzon vines are grown in Mazzon, at an altitude of 400 m. The sandy-clay soil, the afternoon sun and the wind (the Ora del Garda) provide an ideal terroir for the vineyard. The Mazzon plateau is also recognized as the best terroir in the region, perfect for growing this grape variety. The Pinot Noir that characterizes this cru has been grown there for more than 100 years now.

Le vigneron

In 1999, Johanna and Kurt Rottensteiner transferred the family farm, which has been active for more than a century in the town of Bolzano, to the Mazzon plateau, known as a breeding ground for Pinot Noir in the Upper Adige. Assisted by their children Johan and Eva, they opted for organic viticulture and rehabilitated an old country cottage, now surrounded by their 2.6 hectares of vines. Attached to their land and to this life dictated by nature, they managed to raise their wines among the most qualitative in the region.
